Amandeep Kalra, MD, joined Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg – which has locations in Fredricksburg and Stafford, Virginia – in October 2020.
Dr. Karla completed his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin. Prior to this, he completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Kalra is a board-certified gastroenterologist. He is proficient in the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including endoscopy, esophageal dilation, screening and surveillance colonoscopy, removing complex colon polyps, and banding esophageal varices. Dr. Kalra has a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease. During his fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, he worked in the inflammatory bowel disease clinic for two years. During that time, he was involved in caring for patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Being trained in one of the nation's liver transplant centers, Dr. Kalra also has an interest in end-stage liver disease, fatty liver disease, autoimmune hepatitis, and chronic hepatitis B and C. Apart from inflammatory bowel disease and liver disease, Dr. Kalra also has an interest in treating patients with irritable bowel syndrome and eosinophilic esophagitis.
Dr. Kalra believes in evidence-based medicine and has done research in various fields of medicine. His most recent research involves the role of capsule endoscopy in obscure gastroenterology bleeding.
Dr. Kalra's goal is to have the best treatment plan for his patient and to achieve the maximum level of patient satisfaction. He listens carefully to his patients and actively engages them in the planning process.
Dr. Kalra is credentialed with most insurance plans and currently has medical staff privileges at Mary Washington Hospital and Stafford Hospital. He performs procedures at both hospitals as well as at the brand new Fredericksburg Endoscopy Center.
